I am concerned by the reported proposal by the Government of Nepal to dissolve the National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities (NFDIN), a move that threatens to erode the very mechanisms designed to protect the rights of over 10.2 million people.
As the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, I must remind the international community and the Government of Nepal that institutions like NFDIN are not optional bureaucratic layers; they are the functional heart of self-determination and social justice.
