"Nepal Chepang Sangh (NCS)" is a national representative organization of the "Chepang Indigenous community of Nepal". The organization was formed in 2053 B.S. (1996/97 A.D.) and formally registered in Kathmandu in 2055 B.S. (1998/99 A.D.). It works to organize, empower, and represent the Chepang community and to promote their social, cultural, educational, economic, and political development. Nepal Chepang Sangh works to protect and promote the Chepang community’s "language, culture, traditions, religion, identity, and Indigenous heritage". It also advocates for the rights and interests of the Chepang people, particularly in areas such as education, social inclusion, cultural preservation, and access to basic services. The organization has historically placed strong emphasis on "education and community awareness", including support for educational opportunities and hostels for Chepang students. It has also worked to strengthen the recognition of Chepang identity and to address the social and economic marginalization experienced by the community. Chepang communities are concentrated particularly in the hilly areas of "Chitwan, Makwanpur, Dhading, and Gorkha", with communities also living in other districts. The organization continues to advocate for greater protection, representation, and development in traditional Chepang settlement areas. In recent years, Nepal Chepang Sangh has advocated for the establishment of a "Chepang protected area", citing constitutional provisions concerning protected areas for marginalized Indigenous communities. The organization continues to work for the cultural identity, rights, welfare, and overall advancement of the Chepang people. As a representative institution of the Chepang community, Nepal Chepang Sangh remains an important platform for strengthening Chepang unity, protecting Indigenous identity, promoting education and development, and advocating for the community’s rights and interests.
