"Kirat Yakthung Chumlung (KYC)" is a non-partisan, non-profit Indigenous Peoples’ organization representing the "Limbu (Yakthung) community of Nepal". Established in 1989 and formally registered in 1990, KYC works for the preservation and promotion of Yakthung/Limbu language, Kirat-Sirijanga script, literature, religion, culture, history, and traditional heritage. KYC is dedicated to the social, economic, educational, cultural, and overall advancement of the Limbu community. It conducts research, awareness programs, educational and cultural activities, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the rights and identity of Indigenous Peoples. The organization also works to promote human rights, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, environmental protection, community harmony, and sustainable development. The organization has been active primarily in the eastern part of Nepal historically known as "Limbuwan", as well as in Kathmandu Valley, and coordinates with other Indigenous Peoples’ organizations to advance Indigenous rights. KYC is one of the founding organizations of the **Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN)**. KYC also operates and supports specialized bodies and initiatives related to Limbu language and literature, culture, welfare, and Limbuwan studies, including the "Limbu Cultural Council, Yakthung Welfare Fund, Limbu Language Literature Academy, and Limbuwan Study Center". Through its continued work, Kirat Yakthung Chumlung seeks to strengthen Yakthung identity, preserve cultural heritage, improve community well-being, and contribute to a more inclusive and harmonious Nepal.
