Gelje Lama Sherpa as the President of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN)

Gelje Lama Sherpa has been elected as the president of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) Sherpa was elected as the president from the 10th National Convention of the General Assembly with an overwhelming majority of votes. A new 21-member secretariat was elected under the leadership of Gelje Lama Sherpa through a convention held on 9th and 10th of Chaitra at Kawasoti in Nawalpur district. The industrialist Sherpa, who is also the president of the Nepal Sherpa Association, defeated the presidential candidate Sonam Lama Walung by a wide margin and succeeded in taking the leadership of the federation. With a total of 53 votes, the presidential candidate Walung got 8 votes while the industrialist Sherpa got 44 votes and won brilliantly. Buddha Gharti was elected as Senior Vice President unopposed. Similarly, Divas Rai was elected as the general secretary. Rai defeated Sukh Vir Thami, the candidate for the general secretary. Rai got 36 votes while Thami got 15 votes. Similarly, Ridar Norsang Bhote has been elected as the treasurer. The election committee informed that one vote was invalid in the voting for the president and two votes were invalid in the voting for the general secretary. 53 ethnic organizations participated in the election of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities , out of which 56 ethnic organizations were voters. Voting was held for the president and general secretary, while all the other members of the secretariat were elected unopposed.
Who is Gelje Lama Sherpa?
Gelje Lama Sherpa, who was elected as the president of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities , is an established and respected industrialist. Sherpa, who is also the president of Nepal Sherpa Association, is the central convention representative of the party elected from Ramechhap district through the 14th convention of Nepali Congress. He has investments in cement, hydropower, humppipe and construction industries. Businessmen Sherpa entered the election field with important agendas such as establishing the issues raised by the leaders of the federation in the past, expanding the organization to 77 districts and activating the tribal movement across the country, building its own building for the organization of the federation’s office. His agenda has been overwhelmingly approved by voters.
In recent times, there have been criticisms that the issue of indigenous peoples is weak and the organization of the federation is not agile, the president of Nepal Sherpa Association and an entrepreneur, Gelje Lama, has reached the leadership of the Sherpa Federation. With the appointment of Gelje Lama Sherpa as the president of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities , the umbrella organization of 150 million tribals, discussions have started in tribal circles that the transformation of the federation is certain.
