INTRODUCTION
Nepal
Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) is an autonomous and
politically non-partisan, national level common organization. NEFIN
currently consists of 54 indigenous member organizations widely
distributed throughout the Terai, Hills and Himalayas of
Nepal.
NEFIN was formed with the goal of documenting,
preserving and promoting cultures, languages, religion, customs,
traditions of the Indigenous Nationalities of Nepal and to assist
them in developing and obtaining equal rights.
NEFIN has been
playing an important role in supporting its member organizations in
leadership development, strengthening decision-making capabilities,
networking and enabling them to fight for their rights to development
with identity.
VISION
The
establishment of multicultural democratic state where diverse ethnic,
linguistic, cultural, religious and territorial groups are treated
equally; Indigenous people's rights are recognized and respected; and
Indigenous Nationalities enjoy ethnic autonomy on the basis of the
principle of right to self-determination.
MISSION
The
mission of NEFIN is to acquire social equality and justice for
Indigenous Nationalities by preserving their distinct social,
political, cultural and linguistic identities and by promoting their
representation in very aspect of national life.
OBJECTIVES
-
To
play an active role in development by uniting the Indigenous
Nationalities and promoting fraternity among them.

To
formulate common policies and develop leadership for Indigenous
Nationalities by coordinating with their organizations.
-
To
assist organizations of Indigenous Nationalities in capacity
building.
-
To
facilitate in the development of language, literature, script,
religion, culture and education of Indigenous Nationalities and
assist in the preservation and promotion of their rights.
-
To
lobby with national and international agencies in order to bring
about special affirmative actions for the development of the
Indigenous Nationalities who are severely marginalized and are on
the verge of extinction.

To
endeavour in the unity building of the nation by developing true
communal harmony and tolerance among various groups against the
communal tensions create by government and non-government sectors.

To
promote international fraternity by demonstration solidarity against
discriminations based on race, origin, ethnicity, language, religion
and gender.

To
lobby with the government for the compliance of Universal
Declaration of Human Rights and other instruments, including the ILO
Convention No. 169 and un Draft Declaration on rights of Indigenous
Peoples.

To
establish good relationship with national/international
organizations of Indigenous Nationalities on the basis of common
interest and mutual respect.

AGENDA

Recognition
of cultural pluralism as a means of nation integrity and unity and
striving towards the declaration of the State as secular.

Acknowledgement
of all languages and cultures of Indigenous Nationalities as equal
and the provision of education in Indigenous languages.

Re-structuring
the state to provide Indigenous Nationalities with national regional
autonomy with rights to self-determination.
-
Establishment
of a National Development Commission of Indigenous Nationalities.
-
Affirmative
action for the development of Indigenous Nationalities in employment
and education.
-
Respecting
the rights of Indigenous Nationalities to land, natural resources
and bio-diversity protection and preservation.
-
Making
resources available to Indigenous Nationalities and their
organizations to assist in empowering their communities.
